A Sky Sports reporter went full Kevin Keegan in a bizarre rant about the West Ham transfer move for Kalvin Phillips last night.

West Ham are now closing in on the loan signing of midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Man City.

LondonWorld is reporting sources have exclusively told them a medical has been booked after terms were agreed between Manchester City and West Ham.

Last Friday we brought news from a source involved in the West Ham side of negotiations who revealed Phillips’ soft spot for David Moyes had given the Hammers the edge over other clubs.

Some Hammers fans have questioned whether they need the Manchester City flop.

But the general consensus among West Ham supporters, journalists and pundits is that it is a good move for all parties.

Speaking last night, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes Phillips and West Ham could be the perfect match.

A reporter working for the same company clearly doesn’t feel the same, though.

Rob Dorsett is one of the firm’s senior reporters.

And the Sky Sports reporter went full Kevin Keegan in a bizarre rant about the West Ham transfer move for Phillips last night.

Fans of a certain age will remember then Newcastle manager Keegan’s famous rant about the title race with Man United. Many saw it as the moment Sir Alex Ferguson and his side won that title tussle as Newcastle cracked and blew a 12-point lead at the top to finish second.

The excellent Michael Bridge was reporting on Sky Sports about the fact West Ham were closing in on Phillips with the medical booked and the player flying back from Man City’s training camp in Abu Dhabi.

Enter Dorsett with one of the strangest and oddly impassioned Keegan-esque rants about why Phillips should not – and may not – join West Ham.

You can read the full transcript below. But in truth it has to be seen to be believed – and you can watch the clip at the bottom of this story.

Suffice to say Dorsett clearly has an issue with West Ham, who are in the Premier League’s top six and very much in the hunt for a potential Champions League place, signing Phillips for some reason.

“The only thing I’d say is, sorry to pour cold water on that for West Ham fans, but we told you last week that there were five other clubs interested in Kalvin Phillips: Juventus, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Newcastle, Palace and West Ham, right?” Dorsett said animatedly.

“What are those other five clubs doing? Just because West Ham have agreed a deal, a loan deal, for Kalvin Phillips doesn’t mean he’s going to go there!

“That player on your screen there still has an awful lot of say on where he goes and I think the ball is now in the court of those five other clubs to see how they respond.

“West Ham have stolen a march on them…

“But it’s not done yet. As I understand it he’s still flying over from Abu Dhabi where he’s been training with Manchester City. Medical? We can’t get that tied down – doesn’t seem as though it’s imminent in the next 24 hours, is it going to be some time in the next few days?

“What does Kalvin Phillips want? We haven’t heard from him. Where he wants to go could have a big say, how those other five clubs respond could be vital as well.”

How utterly bizarre.

Was anyone else just waiting for Dorsett to say: “I will love it, LOVE IT, when he doesn’t move to West Ham.”
