A journalist close to David Moyes says West Ham may launch late window moves for a striker duo already linked with the club.

West Ham insiders continue to rule out a move for a striker in what remains of the January transfer window.

But a reporter who counts West Ham’s manager as one of his longstanding close contacts believes otherwise.

The Hammers have been – and continue to be – linked with a plethora of strikers from Armando Broja, Serhou Guirassy and Santiago Gimenez to Victor Boniface and Jhon Duran.

Confusion over West Ham striker intentions

West Ham board confidant Sean Whetstone has insisted moves for Gimenez, Duran and Broja are not a priority for the club.

But a journalist close to David Moyes says West Ham may launch late window moves for a striker duo.

Scottish reporter Alan Nixon reported at the weekend that West Ham are ready to smash their transfer record for Bayer Leverkusen striker Boniface.

Journalist touts late moves

Sun journo Nixon has also claimed West Ham enquired about signing Aston Villa bit-part forward Duran.

Since then it has been reported that Villa rejected West Ham’s offer of a loan move.

And doubts have been cast over whether Leverkusen will sell Boniface – who is out for a few weeks with an injury – as they chase the Bundesliga title.

‘May revisit both’

Now Nixon has claimed Boniface remains West Ham’s first choice striker target. But if that doesn’t come off then the Hammers could try again for Duran.

“West Ham in market (for a striker),” Nixon said.

“Boniface first choice. Tried for Duran. May revisit both.”

Nixon also played down claims West Ham could be put off Boniface by his injury status with some reports that he is out until April.

He said: “Might be less. If you’re signing someone for five years a few weeks doesn’t make a difference.”
