West Ham United could lose out to Chelsea in the race to sign a key right-back target in the January transfer window.
Chelsea have reportedly joined West Ham in the race to sign Kyle Walker-Peters in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Alex Crook who told Give Me Sport that Mauricio Pochettino could challenge Hammers boss David Moyes for the 26-year-old Southampton defender’s signature this month.
West Ham have been linked with a move to sign Walker-Peters over the past few months now.
Moyes is apparently on the look-out for a new right-back, with Vladimir Coufal allegedly unhappy at the London Stadium.
The 26-year-old Saints ace would be the perfect long-term replacement for Vlad, but with Chelsea now in the race to sign him, we could well face disappointment…

West Ham face Chelsea battle in the January window
The Blues are now eyeing up a move for Walker-Peters this winter, and could be set to challenge us for his services. Moyes and his transfer negotiation team will now have to pull out all stops if they are to win the race for the right-back’s signature.
The former Tottenham star has been a revelation for Southampton since moving to St Mary’s in 2020.
Dele Alli raved about Walker-Peters when they were both at Tottenham, and labelled him as a ‘fantastic player’ (Sky Sports), and he’s got even better since then as well!
The 26-year-old possesses absolutely blistering pace, is a fine tackler and offers a real threat going forward as well.
In 27 Championship appearances for Southampton this season, Walker-Peters has averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 1.1 clearances per game. He’s also bagged two goals and two assists (Who Scored).
He is a modern full-back in every sense, and would elevate us to a whole new level entirely if we manage to sign him this month.
West Ham manager David Moyes bringing Walker-Peters to the London Stadium in the January window would be a sign that we’re heading in the right direction as a club.
However, Chelsea sniffing around him will certainly be a real inconvenience for the Hammers.
