As David Moyes faces the sack, forget Jose Mourinho, here are five out-of-work managers West Ham United could appoint.

The 60-year-old Portuguese manager was linked with the Hammers hot-seat this morning.

Moyes is under huge pressure in his role as manager at the London Stadium, and rightly so.

The Scot has performed terribly this season, having spent a whopping £170 million in the summer transfer window to strengthen his West Ham squad.

It’s clearly time for a big change at West Ham, and whilst many Hammers fans would undoubtedly love Mourinho, I think there are better options out there for us…

As David Moyes faces sack, 5 exciting managers we should be targeting

The West Ham board need to make a change, and fast. We are currently sleepwalking towards relegation down to the Championship.

After the 4-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday, I have never been more convinced that we will go down, if Moyes stays in the job.

Here are five managers who could not only save our season, but help us make real progress as a club over the next few years…

Mauricio Pochettino

The Hammers owners allegedly tested the waters for the Argentinian back in September.

Ex-Tottenham manager Pochettino is now out of work, after being relieved of his duties with PSG at the end of last season.

His wife Karina still lives at the north London family home with son Maurizio according to The Daily Mail. This one seems like an absolute no-brainer in my opinion

The South American’s high intensity pressing style is exactly what we need at the London Stadium.

Marcelo Gallardo

The 47-year-old likes his teams to pass out from the back, with a patient build-ups through the middle fo the pitch until an opportunity to advance on goal appears.

The ex-River Plate boss is a tactical wizard and has flexibility as well as an incredible winning mentality in his armoury.

The Argentine is due a big European job and it would enthralling to see him take over from Moyes.

Thomas Tuchel

The German lost his job as Chelsea manager earlier this season and he is still out of work.

Tuchel would be an incredibly ambitious appointment and who knows, he might not even be interested in taking the Hammers job.

There is no harm in asking though.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss loves his teams to play a high intensity, possession-based style of football. That’s exactly what we crave as West Ham fans. I would personally love Tuchel at the helm at the London Stadium.

Marclo Bielsa

In my opinion, Bielsa would be a great appointment in the short-term. He would bring the fun back into the club that’s for sure, with his expansive, free-flowing brand of attacking football.

I would only want the Argentine legend on a short-term deal though. His defensive limitations would catch up with him in the end at West Ham. I just feel like he’s the kind of manager that we need at West Ham now after the last 12 months of dire football under Moyes.

Lucien Favre

Total Football Analysis sum up the 65-year-old’s playing style perfectly:

Throughout his career, he has earned the nickname “the brain” due to his tactical understanding of the game. This is shown within his tactical approach as he isn’t ingrained into playing just one system.

The Swiss manager likes to set up his team in a 3-4-1-2 system and I believe that that would help get the best out of Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta.

Obviously there have been calls for the likes of Will Still and Michael Carrick.

However, they both still need to cut their teeth in football management for another year or so before they can be considered ready for a big Premier League job.

Any of the five managers that I listed would be well capable of taking on the huge rebuild that the Hammers face.

Jose Mourinho is a great manager who has won numerous trophies throughout his career. However, his favoured playing style has become stale. We need someone to get the fans up off their seats again.

David Moyes clearly faces the sack, regardless of whether we beat Aston Villa on Sunday or not.

And as the Scot’s time comes to an end, Pochettino, Tuchel, Gallardo, Bielsa and Favre should all be on the West Ham owners’ radar.
