There was another Gianluca Scamacca smacker as the David Moyes cast off does it again while West Ham hunt for a new striker.

Whether it’s luck or judgement – it seems West Ham boss David Moyes lacks both when it comes to strikers.

The problem is that doesn’t bode well given West Ham as a club have their own dismal record when it comes to recruiting forwards.

Danny Ings being the the latest evidence as striker number 52 since David Sullivan and the late David Gold took over in 2010.

After failing to make things work with Gianluca Scamacca at West Ham and then deciding not to sign a replacement, the last thing Moyes needs to see is the Italian become another Sebastien Haller.

But that’s exactly what seems to be happening after the striker’s return to Serie A with Atalanta after just one season with the Hammers.

The man West Ham signed for £35m and sold for a £9m loss a year later has been in fine form for Atalanta, scoring all manner of goals.

And he blasted in a long range beauty to help his side to a 1-1 draw with Sporting and secure a place in the last 16 of the Europa League – where he could face his old side West Ham.

You can see the goal in the post below, it’s a thing of beauty.

It comes after Scamacca scored an amazing back-heel nutmeg goal and piledriver while also laying on an assist. He then scored a real striker’s goal against Inter Milan to take his tally to six goals and an assist in seven starts for his new club.

Moyes was recently mocked by an Italian journalist for giving up on Scamacca too soon.

While the Italian keeps scoring for Atalanta, West Ham will be looking to finally replace him as we enter the January window next month.

This time around Hammers fans will be hoping technical director Tim Steidten is making the call.
