Peter Schmeichel has become the latest to complain after VAR disallowed West Ham’s equaliser against Arsenal.
Jarrod Bowen and Nuno Espirito Santo have already criticised the officials for overturning Callum Wilson’s goal.
Dozens of West Ham supporters and BBC pundit Robbie Savage have also weighed in on the controversial debate.
Despite having no allegiance to the Hammers, Schmeichel was furious with the referees’ crucial decision.

The right call? Or harsh on Pablo?
Peter Schmeichel rants about VAR decision in West Ham vs Arsenal
Nobody would argue that Pablo Felipe did not impede David Raya as the goalkeeper jumped to claim the cross.
The issue is that goalkeepers face similar pressure at almost every set piece, so what was different about this situation?
Peter Schmeichel raised exactly that question in his “angry” rant after Callum Wilson’s stoppage-time equaliser was ruled out.
He also suggested Arsenal are perhaps the biggest culprits for fouling goalkeepers, making the decision even more bizarre.
“What really makes me angry is that Arsenal would never be top of the league if that were a free-kick,” Schmeichel said on Viaplay.
Sum up your feelings on that result if you can… 😢
Heartbroken is an understatement! 💔
“That is how they’ve scored so many goals, by blocking people, holding people, doing all kinds of things.
“And then we get to this point. It takes VAR Darren England five minutes, and he starts over and over again. That puts so much doubt into the decision. It cannot be a free-kick. I think it’s so wrong.
“I just don’t understand why all of a sudden, that’s a free-kick, because it has not been for any team throughout the season. It’s just crazy. That decision is so wrong on so many levels.”
It is not an exaggeration to say that it might be remembered as the biggest moment of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Arsenal now have one hand on the Premier League trophy, while West Ham have one foot in the Championship.
