One thing West Ham may regret about Declan Rice sale as Arsenal chase Premier League title

As if West Ham vs Arsenal needed another storyline, Declan Rice’s transfer between the two clubs adds another.

Sunday’s match between the two London rivals will have major implications on the title race and the relegation battle.

West Ham are desperately trying to avoid relegation to the Championship, sending Tottenham down in the process.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are hoping to win their first Premier League trophy since the 2003/04 Invincibles season.

The Gunners would not be in a position to challenge for the title without Rice, who has been a revelation at the Emirates.

The Hammers could soon regret one oversight in the £105 million Rice transfer that may have cost them millions.

West Ham missed out on millions in Declan Rice to Arsenal transfer

Declan Rice’s £105m sale to Arsenal comprised a guaranteed £100m and £5m in performance-based add-ons.

West Ham are due £1m every time Arsenal qualify for the Champions League, a maximum of five times.

The Hammers will not receive any more money if Arsenal win the Premier League or the Champions League this season.

This can only be described as a mistake from the West Ham hierarchy, as it could have pocketed them millions.

For instance, would it have been a deal-breaker for Arsenal to pay another £5m upon winning the Premier League?

We will probably never know the answer to that question, but it seems highly unlikely that it would have been a ‘No’.

What are the chances that anyone goes for a BIGGER fee than Declan Rice? 💸

And how much would you demand for Jarrod Bowen?

The Gunners would be so elated to have finally ended their title drought that the extra money would surely be insignificant.

Therefore, a defeat to Arsenal on Sunday will be a double whammy rather than providing a monetary consolation.

The Hammers may feel even worse about the exclusion of a title-winning add-on if reports about Crystal Palace are accurate.

The South London club could receive a lucrative payday as part of the Eberechi Eze deal if Arsenal win the league.

West Ham better hope for an Arsenal collapse in the final three games, ideally on Sunday, or they will have egg on their face.
