West Ham United’s miserable defeat to Brentford has naturally increased their chances of relegation – while boosting Tottenham’s survival hopes.

On Saturday, West Ham lost 3-0 to Brentford in tame fashion to put a major dent in their hopes of Premier League survival.

On a scale of 1-10, how confident are you about staying up now? 👀

While West Ham currently sit outside of the relegation zone in the Premier League table, all of that could change if Spurs beat Aston Villa on Sunday.

Now, the relegation battle really could go either way.

West Ham given 48.59% chance of relegation, Tottenham 50.13%

The infamous Opta supercomputer has spoken.

It has given West Ham a 48.46% chance of relegation, while Spurs have a 50.13% chance.

All eyes are now on Tottenham. The beauty of the situation prior to Saturday’s reversal was that the Irons had their destiny in their own hands. Now, they have ceded control.

What did YOU make of the refereeing controversy at Brentford?

No pen on Soucek? Really?

The most alarming thing about the whole situation was the largely abject nature of the performance.

Yes, a goal was disallowed and West Ham hit the woodwork a few times, but they were still largely poor throughout.

West Ham’s rise since mid-January has been built upon momentum. Against Brentford, that evaporated all too quickly.

Very little about what happened at the Gtech Community Stadium inspires much in the way of confidence.

Next week’s clash with Arsenal looks all the more daunting too. The major worry is that when West Ham come off it by even 1%, they look toothless.

There are three games left and while nothing has been decided yet, the manner of this performance was more of a setback than the result itself.

The messaging all week is that West Ham aren’t looking at what Tottenham do. Well, they’ve now lost that luxury and they only have themselves to blame.
