David Moyes needs to start Said Benrahma for the Liverpool vs West Ham clash, but it would go against all of his instincts.

Moyes actually gave Benrahma some rare praise in midweek after the winger’s fine performance against Anderlecht in Europe.

West Ham travel to Anfield for the clash vs Liverpool tomorrow night.

And it might be the best chance we ever have of winning at Anfield with the likes of Joel Matip, Luis Diaz and now Diogo Jota all out for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

It would be really refreshing to take on Liverpool and actually go for it. Despite their wins over Rangers and Manchester City, they are still somewhat of a wounded animal.

The problem is that Moyes likes to set his team up not to lose heavily away from home against the bigger clubs.

I would love to see him go against all of his natural instincts tomorrow night at Anfield though…

David Moyes must start Said Benrahma for Liverpool vs West Ham clash

Moyes’s setup for our game away at Southampton on Sunday was really strange in my opinion.

Sure, we dominated the second-half and should have won the match in the end.

In fairness though, Moyes should have set his team up to go for the jugular from the start.

Southampton were in woeful form before the game on Sunday and were desperately short of confidence. Moyes chose to go defensive though, playing Emerson in front of Aaron Cresswell.

When Said Benrahma came on in place of the Italian, West Ham looked far more dangerous.

The Algerian provided the assist for Declan Rice, and now is time for the West Ham winger to get a big chance vs Liverpool.

Moyes signed the winger for around £30 million from Brentford in October 2020 (talkSPORT). It could actually be argued that he was a David Sullivan signing and not a Moyes one though.

It would certainly explain Moyes’s harsh treatment of the 27-year-old.

Benrahma offers West Ham something completely different when he plays.

He is by far our most creative player. In fact, the 27-year-old has created more chances than anyone else in the West Ham team this season (Fotmob).

Declan Rice recently labelled his Hammers teammate as ‘unbelievable’ (WHUFC).

The former Brentford man seems to have added some real pace this season and that combined with his exceptional technical ability and skill means that he could cause Liverpool real problems down the left-hand flank.

That’s regardless of whether Trent Alexander-Arnold or James Milner plays there.

It’s time for Moyes to change the habit of a lifetime and really go for this game. Liverpool could well be leggy after their titanic battle with Manchester City on Sunday.

And Benrahma’s skill, creativity and guile may well be able to help us unlock their backline.

The thing is, if he is given a chance, he has to stand up, be counted and send a proper message to Moyes that he is deserving of his chance to start regularly.

Too often he hasn’t performed, when given a chance from the start. The Liverpool vs West Ham clash tomorrow night could well be Benrahma’s time to shine though.

Hopefully David Moyes goes for it and gives the Algerian the freedom to express himself at Anfield and help us win the game.
