Elon Musk claims from April now make for very interesting reading after West Ham were offered London Stadium naming rights.

When West Ham moved to the London Stadium, it was widely expected that there would be a drive to sell off the lucrative naming rights.

The LLDC had that responsibility, but six years on there has been no deal and West Ham’s ground remains the London Stadium.

And now, Elon Musk claims from April now make for very interesting reading after the London Stadium naming rights were offered to West Ham.

Last week, it was reported the London Stadium owners would now be willing to consider handing over negotiations around naming rights for the Stadium if the Premier League club offered them £4m per year.

If that were to work, the Hammers would need to get a huge deal in order to make it viable. After all, stadium naming rights deals can be worth anything between £5m-15m per season (90 Min).

The London Stadium seems to be ready made for a so-called Blue Chip company to come in and take over the naming rights – a company like Elon Musk’s Tesla maybe?

West Ham are a huge football club with an ever increasing following around the world. And the fact the the Hammers are situated in the capital will obviously appeal to potential sponsors.

The whole situation means that reports that emerged back in April regarding Elon Musk and his fancy to get into the global sports marketing game now make for very interesting reading indeed…

Elon Musk is big news at the moment.

Not only is Elon Musk the richest man in the world with a $210 billion fortune according to Forbes, but he is also in the process of completing a $44 billion takeover of Twitter (Bloomberg).

And we think that he could have another project in mind…

Back in April, Hammers insiders Westhamfans.org claimed that Elon Musk, the CEO and owner of Tesla cars, has long hankered over sponsoring a ‘global’ sporting venue.

And the West Ham insiders suggested that the London Stadium was Musk’s preferred destination for Tesla.

With the size and stature of Tesla – they are the sixth biggest company in the world by market capitalisation according to Business Insider, West Ham could be in line for a bumper deal.

Whether Elon Musk and his Tesla company have any genuine interest in taking over the naming rights of the London Stadium remains to be seen.

It certainly wouldn’t be the biggest shock in the world though.

West Ham are a huge football club. And that’s not just me being biased.

The Hammers have the second biggest average attendance in the Premier League this season.

We have also generated the 17th biggest revenues in world football this year (Statista).

Getting someone like Elon Musk and a company like Tesla on board would undoubtedly take the East London outfit to an entirely new level commercially.

And we think that the London Stadium is ripe for picking for Elon Musk. The Tesla Stadium has a nice ring to it in my opinion!

Elon Musk is the richest man in the world by a long way. And if he gets into the Football naming rights business, he may well increase his $70 billion lead over second place Jeff Bezoz by even more.
