David Moyes has responded when asked if he thought Said Benrahma played well for West Ham vs Anderlecht last night.
The Hammers beat the Belgian side 2-1 and guaranteed qualification for the knock-out stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League.
In fairness, the result ended up flattering Anderlecht – West Ham were by far the better team, and should have won by three or four clear goals.
Said Benrahma was one of the standout performers for the Hammers, having been given a big chance to impresses by David Moyes. And he certainly didn’t let anyone down.
I feel for Benrahma though. It must be so hard for him to find any kind of consistency or rhythm when he is in and out of the team every single week.
Surely a run of five or six consecutive starts would do the Algerian the world of good and then we would start to see him flourishing on a consistent basis.

The Scot has often taken the hardline approach when it comes to the West Ham winger.
Moyes’s treatment of Benrahma in the media has been questionable to say the least. And I truly believe that the Scot hasn’t managed the former Brentford man very well at all, often choosing to criticise him and almost never praising him.
So it was somewhat of a surprise when Moyes praised Benny last night…WITHOUT ANY CAVEATS!
The Scot responded when asked by reporters what he thought of the Algeria international’s performance for West Ham against Anderlecht last night, as quoted by Football.London:
I thought Said done a lot of good things tonight, he obviously scored a free-kick. He had moments when we needed him to pick people out and he got people away, pick people out in the box to get them a goal. He picked out Fornals in the second half when he could’ve made it 3-0, that was good. There was a lot of good things from Said tonight.
It is actually really nice to hear Moyes praise Benrahma unconditionally.
It rarely happens does it.
Benrahma played the full 90 minutes for the Hammers last night, so it’s unlikely that he will start against Southampton on Sunday.
The 27-year-old can’t do much more than he did last night though, if he is to force his way into the West Ham starting XI in the Premier League again.
It made a refreshing change to hear David Moyes praise Said Benrahma unconditionally last night. And I think that could be a really big boost for the winger.
