A new report has made a worrying Kurt Zouma claim which we can only hope is incorrect after footage from West Ham this week.

West Ham were hit with an injury blow recently when it was announced somewhat out of the blue that Zouma required a knee operation.

The French defender has arguably been one of the club’s best and most consistent player this season even if that is no great compliment given West Ham sit one point off the bottom three.

News of Zouma’s knee op came as a huge blow to David Moyes, who is under pressure to turn results around after the World Cup break.

Particularly as the manager had to convince majority stakeholder David Sullivan – who had concerns over Zouma’s history of knee issues – to sign him from Chelsea for £29m.

West Ham’s official update on the injury and operation was vague. And that gave rise to speculation that Zouma would be out for the rest of West Ham’s season.

Claims of a lengthy four to six month absence have been labelled ‘premature’ by key West Ham sources.

It was reassuringly reported that Zouma did not have a major operation and that the club are ‘hopeful he will be back in the squad quickly’.

That positive outlook was reinforced when Zouma was captured on video walking into West Ham’s Rush Green training base with no obvious issues last week.

There has been no official timescale put on Zouma’s return as yet by the Hammers.

But a new report makes worrying Kurt Zouma claim which we can only hope is incorrect after footage from West Ham this week.

According to Italian outlet FirenzeViola, the prognosis for Zouma is that he could be out for four months.

The site makes the claim about the West Ham defender’s injury when explaining reported renewed interest in Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic.

“Kurt Zouma ‘s knee injury (prognosis that could go as far as four months off) changes West Ham’s transfer market plans which, according to reports from the West Ham Zone portal in January, want a central defender as an absolute priority,” FirenzeViola states – as repeated by Football Italia.

“Nikola Milenkovic is therefore back on the radar of the Hammers as coach David Moyes likes him a lot for his physical and technical qualities.”

Surely the information in the report is incorrect based on what we have witnessed of Zouma moving very freely and returning for rehabilitation on his knee just one week after the operation?

Most knee operations do require lengthy rehab, particularly for athletes looking to get back to performing at the highest level.

But reports have made it clear it was a ‘non-serious’ procedure so we have to hope that he will be back much sooner, because West Ham are going to need him.
