There has been a huge Kurt Zouma injury update from an insider and it’s great news for West Ham after grave concerns.

West Ham were rocked last week when it was announced somewhat out of the blue that Zouma has had a knee operation.

Although it is not saying much given West Ham are one point off the bottom three, Zouma has arguably been one of the club’s best and most consistent player this season. So whatever way you dress it up, new of is knee op came as a huge blow to David Moyes.

Particularly as the manager had to convince majority stakeholder David Sullivan – who had concerns over Zouma’s history of knee issues – to sign him from Chelsea for £29m.

Sullivan has been proved right on that front, piling further pressure on Moyes and his recruitment.

Most knee ops requires lengthy rehabilitation, particularly for athletes looking to get back to performing at the highest level.

West Ham’s official update on the injury and operation was vague.

And speculation has abound that Zouma will be out for the rest of West Ham’s season.

But there has been a huge Zouma injury update from an insider and it’s great news for West Ham after those grave concerns.

Claims of a lengthy four to six month absence have been labelled ‘premature’ by key West Ham insiders speaking to Claret and Hugh.

Reassuringly the insiders state that Zouma did not have a major operation and the club are ‘hopeful he will be back in the squad quickly’.

“Hammers insiders have told us since that the player has had just a small operation on a knee which has troubled him at times since his Chelsea days of 2016,” Claret and Hugh state.

“And they have made it clear that even their own medics have no way of knowing at this stage how long he will be on the sidelines…

“However, given that it was a small injury the three-to-four-month possibility looks unlikely with our source declaring: “We are more than hopeful he will be back in the squad quickly. It wasn’t a major operation at all so all things being equal it won’t be too long but it is premature to start making predictions”.”

That comes as a major relief for West Ham – and Moyes – with the pressure on for the Hammers to turn their season around after the World Cup break.

Whether Zouma is available for that is unclear but it seems he will not be too far away.
