One concerning thing about potential West Ham deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka that people are missing

West Ham United appear to be closing in on a deal to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United.

It has been claimed that the Hammers and Man United are nearing a compromise regarding the fee to bring the 26-year-old right-back to the London Stadium this summer.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be a huge upgrade on West Ham United’s current first choice right-back Vladimir Coufal, there’s no doubt about that.

He possesses blistering pace, and is one of the very best tacklers and man-markers in world football today.

£10-15 million for someone like the Manchester United star sounds like incredibly good value to me, but all is not as it seems.

This is a deal that will almost certainly get done as far as I’m concerned.

It has been claimed that Man United are desperately trying to sell the 26-year-old right-back to the Hammers, in order to proceed with a deal to bring Noussair Mazraoui to Old Trafford.

The thought of Wan-Bissaka joining West Ham is an understandably exciting one at first glance.

But beware Hammers fans…

Concerning thing about West Ham deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka

First thing’s first, Julen Lopetegui absolutely has to bring in an upgrade on Coufal before the start of the new season.

The 31-year-old has been a solid performer for the Hammers over the past four years, but his time at the very highest level is done in my view.

With that in mind, it’s no debate that Wan-Bissaka is a far better player than the ageing Czech Republic international.

And with a deal seemingly close to completion, it may not be too long before we see the 26-year-old full-back holding up the Hammers shirt.

However, a recent report suggested that he will not be moving to the London Stadium due to his extortionate wage demands.

So why the sudden change of heart from the former Crystal Palace man?

It can only be down to one thing, and that’s money.

If the only reason that Wan-Bissaka is prepared to move to the London Stadium is because of a bumper pay packet then I must be honest, I’d prefer that we didn’t sign him at all.

That’s coming from someone who loves everything about how the 26-year-old operates.

West Ham should be targeting players who want to join us to be a part of the project going forward, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s apparent extortionate wage demands suggest to me that he doesn’t fit into that category.

In order to move forward as a club, we need an ‘all hands on deck’ approach. Each and every player must be hungry to prove a point.

Unfortunately, I just don’t think that Wan-Bissaka will have that hunger to make a real go of it at the London Stadium if he is handed an enormous salary.

If the Hammers do sign him though, it goes without saying that I hope he proves me wrong.
