David Moyes seems to have really turned things around at West Ham United in the Premier League this season.

West Ham were really poor domestically last season, but David Moyes did manage to guide us to our first major trophy since 1980.

The Hammers obviously carried the momentum from that night in Prague on into the Premier League this season, because we look like a completely different side.

The form of Tomas Soucek epitomises the turnaround on display at the London Stadium this term. The Czech Republic international was really poor last season. One of the reasons for that was the more defensive role that he was given by Moyes, but he also suggested recently that his attitude quite simply wasn’t right.

And now it seems as though he thinks lady luck had a role to play as well…

Soucek is currently away on international duty with the Czech Republic.

And before last night’s defeat to Albania, he spoke to reporters about why he struggled for form so much with West Ham last season, when speaking to iDNES:

“It’s hard to say. I had bad luck and it started falling apart. This season, I scored two goals from standard, two from set-plays. I’m very happy about them. I feel good and hopefully it will continue in the next games. Maybe here in Tirana.”

I’m not quite sure what Soucek means by bad luck. Perhaps he’s referring to some unlucky misses? I’m just not sure.

I think the overriding issue behind Soucek’s poor form last season was the fact that Moyes played him in the wrong position for West Ham in order to accommodate more of a box-to-box role for Declan Rice.

Thankfully, Moyes has realised the errors of his ways this season, and has returned the 28-year-old to his best position. Now the Hammers are reaping the rewards from that.

It’s just so great to see Tomas Soucek back to his very best form.
