A big claim has just been made about West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta by a football journalist from Brazil – Fernando Campos.
Lucas Paqueta has been sensational for West Ham this season, but he still has not been picked for Brazil since their friendly clash with Senegal on 20th June.

The reason for that is the ongoing investigation into alleged betting breaches by the 26-year-old Hammers star.

Paqueta has already spoken to the FA to give his side of the story, but as things stand, there is no real update regarding whether or not he’ll be banned from playing.
As far as his snub by the Brazil national team goes, it does seem like the Brazilians are taking a guilty until proven innocent approach.
It seems as though it won’t be long before he’s back playing for the Samba Boys though…
Journalist from Brazil makes major new Lucas Paqueta statement with big claim
As Paqueta’s hiatus from the national teams continues to rumble on, there are calls in his homeland for him to be included in the squad going forward.
ESPN Brasil journalist Fernando Campos thinks that’s exactly what will happen and he has explained why:

“Thinking about the future, there will probably be a return of Paquetá. For me, he’s the best Brazilian midfielder in the world. What he’s playing at West Ham, it’s a joke. I think so. At the moment, in this season, he’s playing a lot with and without the ball. It’s absurd, right? The influence he has on David Moyes’ team.”
That really is quite the statement from Campos isn’t it!
Not to say that I don’t agree with him, but to suggest that Paqueta is the best Brazilian midfielder in the world really is a bold claim.
The former Lyon man has reached a whole new level entirely this season, and after Declan Rice left to join Arsenal the South American has clearly taken on the role of the club’s talisman.
It’s such a shame that the betting allegation stories are not going anywhere, and it will probably be quite some time before we find out one way or the other whether he’s innocent or not.
It also remains to be seen whether Lucas Paqueta will be recalled to the Brazil national team squad before his name is cleared entirely.
