There’s been a major update on the Lucas Paqueta situation from a board confidant after the West Ham star spoke to the FA.

It is not lost on fans how different things might have been right now when it comes to West Ham and Lucas Paqueta.

West Ham’s Brazilian magnifico looked increasingly likely to make an £85m move to Man City in the summer window.

But when allegations over illegal betting – which Paqueta vehemently denies – emerged, that move collapsed, much to the delight of West Ham fans.

Paqueta had already started to truly find his feet at the tail end of last season.

But the Hammers star has gone to another level entirely this term. Just ask Liverpool fans who gave him a standing ovation when he was substituted in West Ham’s 3-1 defeat at Anfield recently.

Paqueta’s performances have not only underlined what a fantastic professional he is.

They have also reaffirmed his commitment to West Ham.

With things going very well for Paqueta on the pitch, it seems to have gone somewhat quiet about those betting allegations off it.

But now there’s a major update on the Paqueta situation from a board confidant after the West Ham star spoke to the FA.

Sean Whetstone counts West Ham vice-chair Karren Brady and majority owner David Sullivan among his sources at the club.

‘He is due to return’

And he claims Paqueta, who continues to protest his innocence, has in fact already been interviewed by the FA over their enquiry with another meeting on the cards in the coming weeks.

“Lucas Paqueta has already been interviewed by the FA over their enquiry into suspicious betting patterns involving his yellow cards,” Whetstone said.

“He is due to return to speak to them again in a few weeks’ time.

“The Brazilian completely protests his innocence and says he has no connection or any knowledge of the alleged offences.”

Hammers News has contacted The FA for comment on the situation.

David Moyes, his teammates and West Ham fans have given Paqueta their full backing in light of the accusations.

But the same cannot be said back in his home country.

Last month a prominent Brazilian senator stated he wanted the West Ham star banned for life if found guilty.

And the Brazil national team has excluded him from selection for their last two squads.
