Five deadweight players who West Ham United manager David Moyes must try to sell in the January transfer window.

Moyes has a lot of work to do if he is to turn around the Hammers’ fortunes when Premier League football resumes on Boxing Day.

Things absolutely must improve on the pitch from a performance standpoint but more importantly, results have to get better.

Moyes has already received a warning from the club’s owners regarding those two things in particular.

The Scot has to get the best out of the new signings that he made over the summer…but he needs to add one or two players to his ranks at the London Stadium as well, preferably a right-back and a centre-back.

In order to do that though, the Hammers boss may well have to sell some players first, in order to boost his transfer kitty…

If Moyes is going to have any chance of making some decent additions this winter, he absolutely must sell to buy after his extravagant summer spend on transfers.

Here are five expendable players I believe should be moved on…

Darren Randolph

The 35-year-old goalkeeper is out of contract in the summer of 2023. Claret and Hugh have claimed that Moyes is trying to sell the Irishman in January for around £1 million though. Getting Randolph’s wages off the books at the London Stadium whilst receiving a fee for his signature would be a huge boost for the Hammers.

Vladimir Coufal

The 30-year-old Czech defender has been heavily linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen in the January transfer window. It is alleged that the Hammers will accept around £6 million for his services this winter. And considering his drastic dip in form over the past year or so, getting that amount of money for him would be a real touch.

Arthur Masuaku

The 29-year-old joined West Ham in the summer of 2016, but he has failed to impress at the London Stadium. Masuaku left the Hammers to join Besiktas on loan in the summer, and the Turkish outfit have an option to buy him for around £2 million next summer (FotoMac). Moyes should be doing everything he can to expedite that process, however, and ensure that Masuaku is gone by the end of next month.

Craig Dawson

Now, this is one player who I think Moyes should keep. However, with Dawson out of contract at the London Stadium in the summer of 2023, and quite clearly keen to move closer to his family in the north of England, selling him in January for a nominal fee (maybe £1-2 million) would be a sensible move from Moyes and West Ham.

Manuel Lanzini

The Argentinian ace isn’t needed anymore at West Ham, in my opinion. And Moyes allegedly could be tempted to sell him for around £10 million in the January transfer window (Football Insider). We have plenty of players who can operate in Lanzini’s position, including Lucas Paqueta, Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma. As much as the 29-year-old is loved in East London, now is the time to move him on.

Selling those five players in January could raise around £20 million, and that would be a huge help for Moyes.

The Scot could then try to sign Nikola Milenkovic who is said to be available for just £12 million (Firenze Viola) and Celtic ace Josip Juranovic, who’s up for grabs for around £10 million (The Scottish Sun).

Bringing in those two players and moving on the five players mentioned above would actually make our squad stronger in my opinion, in spite of the fact our numbers would be depleted.

I think there are five deadweight players West Ham must sell in the January transfer window. And if Moyes is smart, he can strengthen his options without actually laying out any cash.
