Losing 21-year-old West Ham United starlet in January will be a double whammy for David Moyes, but it’s his own fault.
Harrison Ashby is one of the brightest prospects to have come through the ranks at the London Stadium in the last decade or so.
The talented young right-back burst onto the scene in 2020/21 season with two appearances in the Carabao Cup for the Hammers.
Since then though, David Moyes has given Ashby just five outings for the first-team. Every time he has played, he has seriously impressed.

So why on earth hasn’t the Scot given the youngster more opportunities.
If West Ham don’t sell him in January, we will lose him on a free transfer in the summer of 2023. Why have the powers that be at the club allowed this situation to happen?
Losing 21-year-old West Ham starlet double whammy for Moyes
Losing Ashby in January is bad enough in itself.
But what makes it even worse is the fact that Moyes now has to spend big on a new right-back.
Ben Johnson and Vladimir Coufal are clearly not good enough, although the former could still improve his levels.
To sign a top-class modern day full-back, Moyes will have to spend at least £25 million.
It’s just so frustrating that the West Ham boss didn’t need to let it get to this.

Ashby has all of the attributes needed to succeed at the very highest level.
The 21-year-old is streets ahead of both Coufal and Johnson already in my opinion, and he should have been playing regularly for us this season, as far as I’m concerned.
Without regard first-team action, who can blame Ashby for wanting to leave? Seeing him go on and succeed with Newcastle will make it all so much worse.
Losing the 21-year-old West Ham starlet will be a double whammy for Moyes. However, the Scot could and should have prevented the current situation.
