David Moyes continuing to use Lukasz Fabianski as his Premier League goalkeeper instead of Alphonse Areola will cost West Ham a place inside the top seven this season.
The Scot has chosen to ease him into action once again, however, keeping Fabianski as his main number one goalkeeper in the league.
That really is utter madness in my opinion.
Alphonse Areola has played regularly for West Ham in Europe over the past year or so, and he was between the sticks once again on Thursday night away in Anderlecht.
It was a match-winning stop from the French World Cup winner, and we really thought that it may have forced Moyes into starting him against Fulham yesterday. That obviously didn’t end up being the case though.
And we think that that stubbornness from David Moyes may end up costing West Ham dearly this season…
David Moyes has to make Areola the number one goalkeeper at West Ham
The £8 million that West Ham paid for Areola (The Athletic) has to go down as one of the bargains of the summer.
He does earn a mammoth £138k-a-week according to Salary Sport, but in this day and age, that kind of wage isnt exactly extortionate.
Areola is a truly top-class goalkeeper in my opinion. The problem is that David Moyes is completely wasting the West Ham ace by leaving him on the bench.
And it could end up costing us dearly.
There is absolutely no reason why Areola should not be between the sticks for us in every single Premier League game. We’re so much more of a better team defensively when he plays.
He’s been with us for over a year now as well. If David Moyes really wants to take West Ham to another level, he needs to start Areola in every game in the league.
The 6ft 5in stopper is one of the best around, as far as reflexes and shot-stopping are concerned.
The 29-year-old is so much better than Fabianski with the ball at his feet and his passing ability is on another level to the Pole’s.
The French World Cup winner’s best asset, however, is his shot-stopping, especially when he has to use his reflexes to save close-range strikes.
He leaves Fabianski in his dust when it comes to keeping out shots inside the penalty area.
West Ham seem to have got our season back on track with three wins in the space of the past week. In order to continue the positive momentum we now have though, Moyes must bring Areola into the side in place of Fabianski.
Our top seven hopes depend on it.
