Hammers boss David Moyes has reacted as West Ham finally confirmed the superb bargain £8m signing of Alphonse Areola on Sunday.
It was over five weeks ago that The Times reported West Ham were putting the finishes touches to the permanent signing of Areola, who shone on loan from PSG last season.
So it is understandable – given West Ham have had the France international in the building for the last year – that Hammers fans have been concerned that the deal is yet to be announced.
Particularly after the widely publicised interest from newly minted Newcastle United has loomed large over proceedings of late.
The Daily Mail claimed recently that Newcastle entering the race for Areola had stalled discussions between West Ham and the Frenchman.
But West Ham fans can now relax because Areola has been signed, sealed and delivered.

West Ham have agreed terms on a five-year contract with the brilliant Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper having exercised their option to buy.
And the likes of The Athletic claim the permanent deal is just £8m – an absolute bargain and £3m less than the previously reported £11m.
Areola becomes West Ham’s second signing of the summer window following the arrival of £30m defender Nayef Aguerd.
Now Moyes has reacted as West Ham confirm the superb bargain £8m signing of Areola on the club’s official website.
“Alphonse made a huge contribution to the club during his loan spell last season,” Moyes told whufc.com.
“His performances backed up why we see him as a top goalkeeper.
“He brings proven quality and experience at the highest level, both on the domestic and international scene.
“We’re delighted he’s with us permanently and look forward to welcoming him back for pre-season.”
Areola provided many memorable moments for West Ham last season.
But none better than THAT point blank save which denied Sevilla a 2-0 aggregate lead as the Hammers went on to beat the Spaniards in the Europa League last 16.
Hammers News instantly dubbed the cat-like reaction stop ‘the £11m save’ in a nod to the goalkeeper’s reported £11 option to buy valuation.
That in itself is a bargain. So to reportedly get Areola for even less is superb business.
