David Moyes has made the same unforgivable striker mistake now twice in 2 years and it’s absolutely criminal

West Ham United manager David Moyes should have signed a striker in the summer, and there’s absolutely no excuse for that huge mistake.

David Moyes sold Gianluca Scamacca from West Ham to Atalanta in the summer, but failed to bring in a replacement.

He did the same thing with Sebastien Haller in January 2021 when he sold him to Ajax, before the striker ended up moving to Borussia Dortmund the following year.

The thing is, neither of the two strikers suited our system, but the fact that the Hammers boss let them both go without bringing in a striker who does fit into our playing style is criminal – totally unforgivable.

We have struggled massively up front this season, with Michail Antonio woefully out of form and Danny Ings painfully ill-suited to Moyes’s system.

And the Scot only has himself to blame for the situation that he and his team currently find themselves in…

To make the mistake of selling Haller and not replacing him was a shocking error of judgement. However, it would have been fine if Moyes learned from that mistake an ensured that he never made it again.

But for him to repeat exactly the same error just two years later is entirely unforgivable as far as I’m concerned.

I’m sorry but I’m just not buying the argument that there weren’t any suitable strikers out there available this summer, just like there apparently weren’t back in January 2021.

Moyes could have signed any one of Serhou Guirassy, Santiago Gimenez, Elye Wahi, Hugo Ekitike and Viktor Gyokeres just to name a few.

However, the Scot chose not to take the plunge and headed into the season with Antonio, Ings and teenager Divin Mubama as his only centre-forward options – completely unforgivable.

The fact that Moyes has allowed this situation to manifest itself again highlights just how inept he can be at times.

And in my opinion, David Moyes should not be given the opportunity to make yet another striker mistake by failing to sign one. If we are to make genuine progress as a club, he needs to be moved on, end of story.
