Kurt Zouma makes strange admission about West Ham defeat to Aston Villa, it highlights baffling David Moyes decision

Kurt Zouma has been speaking about West Ham United’s shambolic 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend.

West Ham put in a woeful display against Aston Villa, and even the ever reliable Kurt Zouma was nowhere near his best.

He has been superb this season, after being named captain earlier on in the campaign, and is one of only two central defenders in the Premier League not to have been dribbled past yet, alongside Arsenal ace William Saliba.

The Hammers deservedly lost the game, and whilst he didn’t show it to reporters, David Moyes would have been fuming with his players behind the scenes.

However, the Scot has to take responsibility for the shocking result as well it seems. He set up the team and picked the players.

And it seems like Moyes has a really strange game-plan indeed for the clash with the Villans…

Kurt Zouma makes strange admission about West Ham defeat to Aston Villa

The Frenchman has been speaking candidly about last week’s unacceptable performance against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

And Zouma lifted the lid on the way that he and his teammates approached the match, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“We should be disappointed with the Premier League defeat at Villa. We conceded four goals as well, which is not like us at West Ham. But there are games where nothing goes your way sometimes, and we try to stick to our plan and press them, but their plan was to pass through us. Tactically, we have to learn from that and learn how to manage the game better.”

I’m sorry, but why on earth we were trying to aggressively press a side who love moving the ball forward quickly, and have pacy, powerful runners inside the final third?

Surely the game against Villa would have been one of the most perfect matches for Moyes to set his team up with a deep back-line, allow them to have the ball and to hit them on the counter as and when the opportunity presented itself – just like we set up when we played Brighton earlier on this season.

Kurt Zouma has let it slip that Moyes got it massively wrong with the way that he set up his West Ham team for the Villa game.

I’m hoping that the Scot learns from that mistake. In fairness to him though, it was so unlike him. Hopefully that performance and result were complete one-offs.
