David Moyes’ farcical treatment of 27-year-old West Ham United ace has been utterly bizarre over the past few months.

West Ham manager David Moyes has received heavy criticism for the way that he’s gone about his business at the London Stadium this season.

The pressure on the Scot’s shoulders has been eased somewhat over the past couple of weeks with victories over Fulham and Bournemouth, a draw against Arsenal and a 5-2 aggregate win over Gent in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals.

However, it is still more than acceptable to criticise Moyes. Some of his decisions this season have been quite frankly baffling.

None of them have been more bizarre than his treatment of Pablo Fornals over the past few months though…

Fornals has barely played for the Hammers since October last year.

In fact, the Spaniard has been given just four starts by Moyes in our last 23 Premier League games.

And in six of those 23 games, Moyes didn’t even bring him on off the bench. Fornals has been given just 437 minutes of action in the Premier League since we beat Fulham on October 9th (Transfermarkt).

Pablo came on off the bench to score against Bournemouth on Sunday, and put in a really good performance in general.

Moyes even commented on the former Villarreal ace’s outpour of emotion after the game.

After Fornals’ display against Bournemouth, how he didn’t get a start ahead of Said Benrahma against Liverpool last night is absolutely baffling to me.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m a huge fan of Benrahma. However, he has been really poor over the past few weeks and seems to have completely lost confidence inside the final third.

David Moyes seems to completely ostracise some of the West Ham players for long periods of time. Benrahma will know all about that having suffered the same fate last season.

In my opinion, Fornals needs to start against Crystal Palace on Saturday, and ideally in a central role. Perhaps then Maxwel Cornet could be given a run out on the left wing in place of the Algerian.

A win against Crystal Palace could be enough for the Hammers to retain our Premier League status for another season. The 27-year-old Spaniard surely deserves a chance to prove to Moyes that he has got it wrong by leaving him out recently.

Should the Scot leave Pablo on the bench again though, the midfielder will surely know that his time in East London is done.
