Pablo Fornals put in an incredibly poor performance for West Ham United during his 15 minute cameo against Gent last night.

West Ham beat Gent to progress through to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League, but Pablo Fornals was only used as a late substitute by David Moyes.

The Hammers midfielder, 27, has endured a really difficult last few months at the London Stadium.

Fornals has barely played. in fact, the Spaniard has only been handed four starts by Moyes in West Ham’s last 21 Premier League games.

And in five of those 21 games, Moyes didn’t even bring him on off the bench. Fornals has been given just 412 minutes of action in the Premier League since we beat Fulham on October 9th (Transfermarkt).

Fornals has played only 25 minutes per game on average during the 16 matches where he has featured.

He has played more regularly in the Conference League but he didn’t even come off the bench out in Gent last week, and was only give 15 minutes including injury time last night.

Last night’s cameo may well have been the straw that broke the camel’s back as far as the player’s West Ham career is concerned…

The 27-year-old’s lack of minutes at the London Stadium recently tells us all that we need to know.

He has clearly fallen out of favour with Moyes, and with his contract at the London Stadium set to expire in the summer of 2024, his days with the Hammers may well be numbered.

Fornals was absolutely awful when he came on as a late substitute for West Ham against Gent last night.

He seemed to be desperately short of confidence and there was no conviction in anything that he did.

His passing lacked precision and in all honesty he just seemed like a man who didn’t really want to be out on the pitch.

Fornals’ night was summed up when he smashed the ball into the home fans after it had gone out of play and the supporters reacted angrily to the Spaniard.

Moyes needs to strengthen his squad at the London Stadium this summer, but in order to do that he will need to make space by selling one or two first-team players.

Pablo Fornals is a prime candidate to be sold by West Ham in my opinion, and his performance against Gent last night proved that he wants out as well as far as I’m concerned.

It will be sad if the 27-year-old does leave – he’s been such a popular player in East London over the past four years. However, there is no room for sentiment at the highest level of the game, and Fornals leaving the Hammers would suit all parties involved this summer.
