Paul Merson has noticed a big problem with West Ham United.
The Hammers are currently flying high in fourth spot in the Premier League table.
A win today would take us level on points with third placed Manchester City and only three points adrift of league leaders Chelsea before they kick-off against Manchester United.
David Moyes really has worked wonders since taking over at the London Stadium in December 2019.
West Ham are a completely different team now. Teams used to love playing against us and that simply isn’t the case any more.
Paul Merson shares big problem he’s noticed at West Ham
The Hammers have proven that we are more than deserving of our place inside the top four so far this season.
Whether we can stay there for the remainder of the season, however, is another matter entirely.
Paul Merson explained why he thinks West Ham will struggle to do just that, when writing his regular column for sportskeeda:
“West Ham beat Liverpool this month, but lost what should’ve been a run-of-the-mill game against Wolves. That’s been the problem with them this season – they’ve found out that it’s easy to get into the top four, but the hardest thing is to stay there.”
That’s a fairly harsh assessment from Merson.
It will undoubtedly be tough for us to maintain our place inside the top four.
But surely it’s a bit too early to suggest that we will have a big problem staying there. We will still be fourth even if we lose to Man City this afternoon after all.
Perhaps it will be better to judge our top four aspirations in a couple of months or so.
West Ham have taken the Premier League by storm since the start of the 2020/21 season.
And perhaps we might shock a few more people this afternoon against Manchester City as well.
