The 22-year-old has been in scintillating form for the Hammers so far this season.

In fact, he has been our best and most consistent player for at least two years by a long, long way.

Rice is not only now the most important player David Moyes has at his disposal at the London Stadium but he is a key player for the England team as well.

The young midfielder has always been very good but it seems as though he has reached another level entirely this season.

Paul Merson has just made a huge claim about Declan Rice

The 22-year-old West Ham United midfielder can go on achieve anything he wants in the game…as long as he continues to apply himself and work hard of course.

Hopefully we can keep him at the London Stadium for the remainder of his career. The way things have been going lately, we undoubtedly have a good chance of doing just that.

Merson suggested that Rice is so good that not one player in world football can do the job that he does:

“I think he’s up there with the best in the world. I don’t know who plays his position better than him in the world. He protects the back four, he scores goals, he can glide past people, you’d think he was 27 or 28. He plays with so much maturity. I couldn’t talk highly enough of him. Now he’s the best in the country at doing what he does and when I watch international football I don’t see any players who are better than him.”

The scary thing about Rice is that he will undoubtedly get better and better as he gets older and gains more experience.

Once he starts adding regular goals and assists to his game, he will be one of the best players in world football.

It could actually be argued that he already is in fairness.

Paul Merson making his claim about Declan Rice today won’t surprise any West Ham fans.

We have been witnessing the 22-year-old’s brilliance for years now.
