Hammers boss David Moyes would have been delighted with the result, because there were times when it seemed like we were going to be on the wrong end of a good hiding.

There was definitely a bit of tension emanating from the London Stadium during the first-half yesterday. But West Ham came back with a vengeance in the second-half and blew Chelsea away in the end.

Pretty much every single Hammer played their part, and Carragher raved about one in particular…

Jamie Carragher says West Ham player made him eat his words during 3-1 Chelsea win

The football pundit was commentating on the game on Sky Sports yesterday (August 20th, 6:15pm).

And Jamie Carragher absolutely raved about Jarrod Bowen, after he played as a central striker following the substitution of Michail Antonio:

“Brilliant from Bowen, I said I was surprised that Antonio was taken off but if he can do this, he’s making me eat my words.”

The 26-year-old put in a tremendous shift when Antonio was taken off by David Moyes yesterday.

Bowen will undoubtedly be a hugely important player for us this season, whether he plays out on the right wing or through the middle as a centre-forward.

West Ham won 3-1 yesterday against Chelsea because of the hard work that Michail Antonio put in during the second-half, and then Jarrod Bowen’s non-stop running during the final 15 minutes of the game.

We will need him to do that more often this season if Moyes fails to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.
