West Ham United manager David Moyes has provided an injury update on Michail Antonio ahead of the clash with Newcastle on Sunday.

Michail Antonio missed the Freiburg vs West Ham clash last night, and David Moyes has fielded questions about his fitness today.

The 33-year-old Hammers attacker has been one of our most important players since Moyes took over at the London Stadium for the second time in December 2019.

He is absolutely vital to the way in which West Ham play, and it’s hard to get Moyes’s system to work correctly without him.

However, it seems as though he might be unavailable for selection once again this weekend…

The Scot addressed the media today, ahead of our clash with Newcastle United on Sunday at the London Stadium.

And Moyes responded when asked by reporters whether Antonio will be back and ready to play against the Magpies, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“I will need to see [if Michail is available]. He’s not trained yet. He has done some running with the medical team, so over the next couple of days we will see if he is able to play.”

If he still hasn’t trained, it is highly unlikely that he will be part of the squad on Sunday, let alone start the game against Newcastle.

I guess we will just have to hope that the injury isn’t a serious one and that Micky is back raring to go after the international break.

Michail Antonio is often criticised by some sections of the West Ham fans, but whenever he’s out because of an injury, we really miss him.

And that’s the biggest compliment that the 33-year-old can be given.
