West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has finally spoken out after his comments about Liverpool ended up backfiring spectacularly.

Michail Antonio and his West Ham teammates were comfortably beaten 3-1 by Liverpool at Anfield 10 days ago.

The Hammers actually played pretty well on the day, especially inside the first-half. However, we were set up to fail before the game even kicked off.

That’s because Antonio ridiculously predicted that West Ham would finish above Liverpool this season a few days before the match.

David Moyes would have been fuming with the 33-year-old, just like many of the Hammers fans were. If you’re going to make silly predictions like that then you’ve got to at least back it up on the pitch!

However, the really worrying thing for West Ham is that Antonio has boldly admitted that he wouldn’t think twice about doing it again…

The former Nottingham Forest man was taking a hammering from his co-host Callum Wilson on the The Footballer’s Football Podcast about his comments about Liverpool.

And Antonio strangely declared that he would do the same again:

“I got a big pie in my face, yeah, it’s no problem. I ain’t worried. It is what it is. I would do it again – I will do it again. I swear to you, if we won that game, some would have turned up to my house. If we won that game, I was so implanted in these Liverpool fans’ heads they would have turned up to my house. It was a madness. It went everywhere. The amount of messages I got all week from Liverpool fans after the game. I probably won the game even though I didn’t win because how I’m still implanted, I’m still getting messages today.”

Why give the opposition extra motivation and added impetus to beat us just days before a game? It serves absolutely no purpose.

I just don’t get it. There is nothing wrong with being confident of course there isn’t. However, comments like the ones he made on Liverpool should have been kept in-house behind closed doors.

I was hoping that he would have learned from his mistake. That doesn’t seem to be the case though.

I love Michail Antonio and think that he has been a great servant for us over the past eight years. However, he surely has to stop coming out with these ridiculous things on his podcast, especially when it is to the detriment of the club.
