Filip Glova has been named as the referee for the West Ham vs Backa Topola Europa League clash tomorrow night.
West Ham play host to Backa Topola at the London Stadium in 36 hours time for the Europa League Group A opener.
The match will be a great chance for the Hammers to kick off our Europa League campaign with a win.
David Moyes will be fully aware that nothing less than a win will do, if we are to qualify from Group A.
However, there is a potential concern for the Scot and his players ahead of tomorrow’s game…
Filip Glova is the referee who will take charge of West Ham vs Backa Topola
Born in Slovakia on February 15th 1988, the 35-year-old is somewhat of a newbie in the world of refereeing when it comes to his age.
However, he has refereed plenty of games already – 220 in fact – with the majority of those coming in the Slovakian League. He has only taken charge of five Europa League games to date though.
During the 220 games that he has refereed, Glova has handed out 823 yellow cards and 31 red cards (Transfermarkt).
That’s quite the output from the Slovakian. Hopefully he won’t try to take centre stage on Thursday night and make the game all about him.
The referee for the West Ham vs Backa Topola clash is somewhat of a surprise selection given his lack of experience of refereeing games in the Europa League.
I’m just hoping that we’re not talking about him after the game.
