Exclusive: West Ham’s six-word response on prospect of new signings as transfer D-Day edges closer makes for intriguing reading.

Going into the January transfer window it was clear West Ham needed to sign at least one new forward and a defender and/or full-back.

The top source inside West Ham exclusively revealed to Hammers News back in November that players had to be shipped out to make space in the squad and on the wage bill due to FFP limits.

So far Thilo Kehrer and Conor Coventry have been moved out and only central midfielder Kalvin Phillips has arrived.

West Ham are being linked with a host of moves as the closing of the window looms large.

West Ham’s six-word response on prospect of new signings

With less than four days to go until Thursday’s 11pm January deadline, the clock is well and truly ticking for the Hammers.

West Ham ideally need a versatile defender and an attacking player – if not two.

Technical director Tim Steidten is heading up recruitment while majority owner David Sullivan plays a big role too.

David Moyes of course has his input. But deadline day once again co-incides with West Ham playing in the Premier League – against Bournemouth at home – on the same evening.

In midweek we were exclusively told by the top source inside West Ham that an opening bid to Danish side Nordsjællands for Ibrahim Osman had been knocked back.

But negotiations have continued for 19-year-old Ibrahim Osman, who is a product of the same Right to Dream academy as Mohammed Kudus.

Osman has been dropping hints he is keen to join West Ham with his social media activity.

There has been disappointment among West Ham fans today after board source Sean Whetstone revealed the move for Osman is in doubt.

Whetstone said an advisor to the board had voiced concerns as to whether Osman is up to Premier League standard at the money being asked by Nordsjælland.

The likes of Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg also then claimed the move was off.

But last night Fabrizio Romano insisted the move is still very much on the cards.

‘Too complicated for words’

Meanwhile reports continue to link the Hammers with bids to sign a number of other players too, including Jota.

So West Ham’s six-word response on the prospect of new signings as transfer D-Day edges closer will intrigue fans.

We spoke to a key senior contact inside West Ham last night about the club’s current transfer situation.

“It is too complicated for words,” a clearly frustrated top source told Hammers News.

With the club still trying to ship out the likes of Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma to ensure the books are balanced, is it any wonder.

The January window is always a difficult time to do business.

But some of West Ham’s best signings of recent years have been made in the winter window.

The likes of Jarrod Bowen, Tomas Soucek, Jesse Lingard – and now on paper Phillips – have all been brought in during January.

Over the weekend Sky Sports’ chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol explained the real reason for the quiet window.
