Hammers boss David Moyes made some excellent signings this summer, but the Scot was probably a striker and a left-back short of a 10/10 summer transfer window.
Moyes’s failure to sign a striker seemingly wasn’t through the lack of trying though, and he allegedly tried to get a top-class signing over the line on deadline day…
West Ham tried to sign £39m Mexican on transfer deadline day, made concrete enquiry
Toby Cudworth claims that the Hammers made an official enquiry for the Feyenoord hitman on deadline day.
However, the Mexico international apparently wanted to remain with the Dutch giants and play Champions League football.
Football scouting and analysis website Breaking the Lines have described Gimenez as ‘excellent’.

Feyenoord were said to demanding around $50 million (£39 million) for the 22-year-old striker (Goal).
Gimenez is an elite centre-forward and bagged 23 goals in 45 games for the Eredivisie side last season. He has three in three to his name this term as well (Transfermarkt).
Standing at 6ft tall, the Mexico international is strong in the air and relishes the physical battle. He is extremely hard-working and is clinical when presented with a goalscoring opportunity.
He would have been absolutely perfect for West Ham, and it’s such a shame that we didn’t manage to sign him on transfer deadline day.
