West Ham striker target Santiago Gimenez is second only to Erling Haaland as the young player with the most goals in the top six leagues.

West Ham have been striking a light on their forward search because they’re a striker light.

With Gianluca Scamacca sold and both Michail Antonio and Danny Ings being linked with departures too, there’s no doubt West Ham need to sign a striker before the summer transfer window closes on Friday night.

The Hammers have been linked with PSG’s Hugo Ekitike, Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri, Brazilian trio Yuri Alberto, Pedro and Marcos Leonardo and Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez.

Earlier this month we carried a report on claims from Holland that West Ham are sounding out Mexico striker Gimenez.

In the wake of those links, West Ham’s new summer signing Edson Alvarez sent his international teammate a cheeky message on social media for all to see.

The 22-year-old scored 23 goals for the Dutch side last season.

West Ham striker target Santiago Gimenez second only to Erling Haaland as young player with most goals in the top six leagues

And amid the links to West Ham, Gimenez has started this term in great form too – notching three goals in as many league games so far.

He also has four goals for Mexico, two of which have come this year as he helped them win the Gold Cup alongside West Ham new boy Alvarez.

Now an astonishing fact has emerged regarding the man the Hammers are said to be tracking.

Striker Hammers allegedly want is keeping great company

Because West Ham striker target Gimenez is second only to Erling Haaland as the young player with the most goals in the top six leagues this calendar year.

Gimenez is currently the under 23 striker with the second most goals scored in the top six leagues in 2023, only behind that man Haaland.

“Haaland has 28 goals this calendar year so far whereas West Ham target Gimenez has 20.”

Not bad company he is keeping at all is it?

Perhaps David Moyes and Tim Steidten need to get agent Alvarez on the case to try and get Gimenez in the door before Friday’s deadline.
