Atletico Madrid defender Caglar Soyuncu has reportedly just rejected a January move to West Ham United.
West Ham boss David Moyes undoubtedly needs to bring a new centre-back to the London Stadium in the January transfer window, and it seems like Caglar Soyuncu was someone who the Scot really wanted.
The Hammers are currently without Nayef Aguerd who is away at AFCON with Morocco, whilst Kurt Zouma is a real concern, what with his knee issues.
Meanwhile, Konstantinos Mavropanos has looked extremely unconvincing recently. So it’s clear to see why Moyes maybe would like to bolster his central defensive ranks.
However, he’ll have to look elsewhere other than Atletico Madrid for reinforcements now, after Soyuncu, 27, rejected a January move to the London Stadium according to a report from Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu…
Caglar Soyuncu rejects West Ham move
The 27-year-old centre-back will not be moving back to the Premier League this winter, it seems.
The Turkey international made a name for himself when he joined Leicester City from Bundesliga side Freiburg in the summer of 2018.
However, every single time I watched him play it just seemed to me like he was a disaster waiting to happen.
Whenever we played Leicester, I feel like he was the player we targeted as a team, and we gave him the absolute runaround at the London Stadium during our 4-1 win back in August 2021.
If Moyes is to sign a centre-back this season, I want him to bring one of the very best around to the London Stadium. I’m talking someone like Marc Guehi or Fikayo Tomori.
We need a proper long-term replacement for Zouma and I’m sorry, but Caglar Soyuncu would not have been the man for the job at West Ham. He quite simply isn’t good enough as far as I’m concerned.
