West Ham are set to make a mystery third summer signing by Friday claims a journalist detailing a rapid pursuit of a Harry Maguire alternative.

West Ham’s on-off pursuit of Man United outcast Harry Maguire was finally ended yesterday but the Hammers are not hanging around with their Plan B.

David Moyes has wasted a huge chunk of the summer transfer window pursuing Maguire only for the move to collapse.

But there is no such pondering over a new move if information emerging today is anything to go by.

Because West Ham are set to make a mystery third summer signing by Friday claims a journalist detailing the rapid pursuit of a Maguire alternative.

West Ham to make mystery third summer signing by Friday claims journalist detailing rapid pursuit of Harry Maguire alternative

The Sun reporter Jordan Davies has exclusively claimed that West Ham will make another signing within the next 48 hours.

“EXCLUSIVE: West Ham confident they will have signed a replacement for their failed Harry Maguire bid within the next 48 hours,” Davies said.

If Davies’ claim proves accurate then there is a chance that whoever the player is, they might be registered in time to face Chelsea this Sunday.

To do that, the new arrival would need to be registered with the Premier League by midday Friday.

But knowing how Moyes operates, he will probably hold off including the mystery man in his squad until he has had a chance to train with his new teammates.

Uncharacteristically speedy West Ham move suggests new arrival will be a Steidten target

The Hammers have been linked with Bayer Leverkusen duo Jonathan Tah and Odilon Kassounou as well as Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.

Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian recently claimed West Ham want Chalobah from Chelsea, who need to sell fringe players to satisfy FFP rules.

But we reported this morning that Nottingham Forest have jumped to the front of the queue for him having entered into talks.

Another defender being linked with West Ham amid the claims a new arrival is on the way in the next two days is ex Arsenal flop Konstantinos Mavropanos – now with Stuttgart.

The speed of this apparent pursuit suggests it could be a player identified by new technical director Tim Steidten as he arrived at West Ham armed with a list of targets.
