West Ham United really should just step back and allow one exceptionally gifted player to join Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

West Ham and Newcastle are on completely different trajectories right now as far as the respective ambitions of both clubs are concerned.

The January transfer window will be hectic for both the Hammers and the Magpies.

West Ham are in all sorts of trouble right now, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently sitting seven points adrift of safety.

Nuno admits these four could all be leaving West Ham…

How do you feel about what could be a BIG January overhaul?

With West Ham’s Premier League status hanging by a thread, many Hammers fans are calling for the board to make some statement signings.

However, caution needs to be urged somewhat, and allowing Newcastle a free one at an incredibly exciting player may well be what is actually required, as strange as that may sound.

West Ham should let player join Newcastle in the January window

The January transfer window may be seen by some as a potential saviour for the Hammers.

However, many West Ham fans believe the recent flurry of transfer activity has come too late.

More signings could be on the way but will it actually be smarter for the Hammers owners to tighten the purse strings now?

West Ham have been heavily linked with a move to sign Charlie Cresswell from Toulouse this month.

It has been claimed that West Ham could pay around £20 million for Cresswell.

Now though, Newcastle are trying to sign Charlie Cresswell in January, according to the latest reports.

The sad fact of the matter is that West Ham need to keep their powder dry for next season and beyond now.

The harsh reality is that relegation down to the Championship could be a mere formality unless the Hammers pick up a few wins within their next three or four games.

Now, relegation wouldn’t be the end of the world for West Ham. It would actually allow them to make a fresh start from a clean slate.

However, financial adjustments would have to be made in order to enable the club to run sustainably.

And that starts now.

Throwing good money after bad at players in order to fight what is looking increasingly more like a losing battle would be a dim move from the board.

Charlie Cresswell is the right player for West Ham at the wrong time

Cresswell is a wonderfully gifted footballer and is one of the very best young central defenders around.

He is physically imposing, strong in the air and tenacious in the tackle.

In 17 Ligue 1 appearances for Toulouse this season, Cresswell has averaged one tackle, one interception, 6.5 clearances and 1.2 blocks per game.

What is your RESPONSE to those Ethan Pinnock links?

Underwhelming? Or Craig Dawson 2.0?

Ethan Pinnock of Brentford celebrates scoring his team's fourth goal during the Premier League match between Brentford FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC at Gtech Community Stadium on October 05, 2024 in Brentford, England.

He’s very good with his feet as well and has an average pass completion rate of 85.8% from 45.7 passes per match on average (Who Scored).

While Cresswell would be a major upgrade on Max Kilman at West Ham, he simply won’t be able to perform miracles and keep them up this season.

The best thing to do will be to allow Newcastle a free run at Charlie Cresswell, and either promote some of the Hammers’ youngsters to the first-team squad in the summer or sign a proven centre-back for a minimal fee.

Besides, if Newcastle really want to sign Cresswell, who do you think he’ll want to join out of them and West Ham?

The links with Ethan Pinnock make far more sense than the Cresswell rumours.
