West Ham United have all sorts of problems right now and Alan Shearer has highlighted something particularly worrying about their situation.

Shearer watched West Ham’s defeat to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night and he thinks alarm bells should be ringing at the London Stadium.

Nuno Espirito Santo has failed to have the desired impact in charge of the Hammers and things are looking pretty bleak right now.

There is actually a school of thought that relegation down to the Championship wouldn’t actually be a bad thing for West Ham.

West Ham’s Premier League status is hanging by a thread at the moment and there seems to be no end in sight regarding the poor performances that the fans are being forced to endure week in, week out.

Alan Shearer has noticed something concerning about West Ham

With games against Tottenham, Sunderland and Chelsea to come in their next three Premier League matches, things could get worse before they get better for the Hammers.

Right now, it’s all about the manager, the players, and indeed the fans, maintaining belief that Premier League survival is still possible.

However, the final 30 minutes of the defeat against Forest proved that once the West Ham players’ heads go down, there is no coming back.

When speaking on The Rest Is Football Podcast, Alan Shearer delivered a stark warning to the Hammers fans.

“West Ham, I thought they did all right first half, but I think they were the better team. But you can just tell they’re so fragile at the minute.

And once they were under pressure, then I guess they’ll feel it was a harsh decision with a penalty. But when you’re a goalkeeper and you’re coming out like that, you have to come and collect the ball, not the forward who you clattered into.

So, a disaster for West Ham and it’s looking very, very likely that the three that are there, are the three that are going to go.”

He’s right – West Ham’s situation right now really is a disastrous one.

West Ham’s issues run deep

The squad is nowhere near good enough and there are question marks over whether Nuno is actually the right man for the job.

Imagine you are Nuno – What is the FIRST thing you are doing to save your job?

Nuno Espirito Santo, Manager of West Ham United, during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Nottingham Forest at London Stadium on January 06, 2026 in London, England.

The seven-point gap between the Hammers and Nottingham Forest right now appears to be just too large to overcome.

If West Ham were playing some decent football, there would at least be some positivity that the players could drag themselves out of the mess that they’re currently in.

Unfortunately that is simply not the case.

With some tough games on the horizon for the Hammers, it looks like more pain could be on the way for the fans.

As Alan Shearer said, a team full of ‘fragile’ players is definitely not what you need in a relegation scrap.
