West Ham United are ‘working around the clock’ to secure the signing of Amadou Onana from Lille this summer.

That’s according to football journalist Peter O’Rourke who told Give Me Sport that the Hammers will be trying to get a deal done for the 20-year-old midfielder as soon as possible in an effort to ward off interest from other potential suitors.

Despite the fact that David Moyes has already signed Flynn Downes from Swansea, it seems as though he’s intent on strengthening his central midfield ranks at the London Stadium further still.

With Mark Noble having retired and Alex Kral sent back to Spartak Moscow, Moyes would have known that he needs to sign another two centre midfielders this summer.

And it seems as though the Scot is very clear on who he wants to bring to the London Stadium…

West Ham chasing Onana deal

Peter O’Rourke told Give Me Sport how the Hammers are desperate to get a deal done for the 20-year-old Lille ace as soon as possible:

“I think West Ham will be working around the clock to try and get a deal done as soon as possible to ward off interest from other potential suitors. A position that West Ham are looking to strengthen is central midfield and Onana fits the bill, I think, for the Premier League and also for West Ham.”

What a signing Onana would be for West Ham.

He seems to have absolutely everything needed to succeed in the English game what with its intense nature and ferocious speed and tempo.

The 6ft 5in central midfielder is an absolute giant.

He’s powerful, energetic and has everything that Moyes will be looking for in the middle of the park.

The Belgium international is equally as strong with both feet, and that’s somewhat of a rarity in the modern game.

In 32 Ligue 1 outings for Lille last season, Onana averaged 1.5 tackles and one interception per game. He made 20 passes on average per match and recorded a completion rate of 84% (Who Scored).

The 20-year-old is an absolute powerhouse of a player and would be an unreal addition to Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium this summer.

Onana is a really special talent. He has been described by Sport Magazine as a ‘sensational’ young player. Meanwhile, he’s been labelled as an ‘incredible’ player by Total Football Analysis.

One thing’s for sure, if the Hammers sign the midfielder in the summer transfer window, we will be a much stronger team next season than we were this term.

Let’s hope that West Ham manage to secure the signing of Amadou Onana this summer.

Claret and Hugh claim that Lille could demand as much as €68 million (£57 million) for the Belgian ace though. They will certainly need to lower those demands if the Hammers are to have any chance whatsoever of signing him.
