West Ham United new boy Flynn Downes has made a massive Real Madrid claim after sealing his dream move to the Hammers.
West Ham completed their third signing of the summer for the first team with the arrival of boyhood Hammers fan Downes from Swansea City yesterday.
David Moyes moved quickly to get the deal done and dusted for the highly rated 23-year-old midfielder.
The signing takes West Ham’s summer spending past the £50m mark following the arrival of £30m defender Nayef Aguerd and making Alphonse Areola’s loan move permanent for around £10m.
Downes had looked set to join London rivals Crystal Palace but West Ham swooped to steal him from under Patrick Vieira’s nose at the 11th hour.
But as a lifelong Hammer, Downes would not have taken much convincing.

Indeed it seems the Brentwood-born star would have turned down just about anyone for the Irons.

“It’s been my dream since I was a little boy to represent this club, so I’ve finally got the opportunity to do it and I’m over the moon,” Downes said in a new interview on West Ham’s official website.
“My family are all big fans, my mates, my best mates, pretty much everyone I know is a West Ham fan, so it’s unbelievable. Like I said, I feel like I’m dreaming. It’s just crazy, absolutely crazy.
“It’s a massive club that has done unbelievably well in the last few seasons and is clearly going in the right direction.
“Look, this is my club. If Real Madrid had come in for me, I was still coming here. That’s as simple as it is really.”
What a statement that is from our latest Hammers recruit. It’s highly unlikely Downes was on the radar of Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti.
But it says everything about Downes that he would have turned down the 14-time European champions for West Ham.
It is so fitting that Moyes has replaced the retiring claret and blue blooded Mark Noble with another one of our own in Downes.
