Said Benrahma finally left West Ham United at the end of last month after a fairly underwhelming four-year spell with the club.

West Ham allowed Said Benrahma to leave the London Stadium to join Lyon on loan in the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old joined the Hammers from Brentford initially on loan in October 2020, before making his move a permanent one for around £25 million in January 2021.

Benrahma enjoyed some great moments in a West Ham shirt, and played a key role for us during his first three seasons at the London Stadium.

He will forever be remembered by Hammers fans for the penalty that he scored against Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final in 2023.

However, he was awful for West Ham during his final season at the club, and bagged just one assist in 22 games in all competitions before moving on.

It’s no surprise to me that Benrahma has now been moved on, it’s just a shame that we never got to see the best of him under Julen Lopetegui.

Now though, I believe the Hammers can bring in a huge upgrade on the former Brentford man, for absolute peanuts in this day and age…

The Algerian has the ability, but he never fulfilled his potential at the London Stadium.

Now Lopetegui needs to bring in a right footer who can operate out wide on the left to replace Benrahma, in order to give us more balance.

There are a lot of options out there for West Ham this summer, including the likes of Jota Silva and Wesley Gassova.

However, another man is on our radar as well, and he’s available for an absolute snip it seems.

According to a report from De Telegraaf, the Hammers can sign Steven Bergwijn from Ajax this summer for just £21 million – a player who Lopetegui is allegedly a big fan of.

What an unbelievable bargain that would be for us in the summer transfer window.

Hopefully West Ham find a way to beat our competitors to the signing of Ajax ace Steven Bergwijn – he’s just the kind of player we need at the club right now.

He’s a right-footed left winger, and would be a huge upgrade on Benrahma in my opinion, what with his end product inside the final third. We have plenty of options out wide on the right side of attack, but are incredibly weak on the left.

During his time with Tottenham, the 26-year-old racked up just eight goals and 10 assists in 83 games. He bagged seven goals and five assists in 60 Premier League games for Spurs.

However, he’s faired far better with Ajax, with 29 goals and 11 assists to his name in just 76 outings for the Dutch giants.

Steven Bergwijn possesses blistering pace, impressive technical ability, can play anywhere along the front-line and would take West Ham to another level entirely.

Signing him for just £21 million sounds like an absolute no-brainer to me.
