The future of Said Benrahma at West Ham United is very much up the air right now.
West Ham winger Said Benrahma has been heavily linked with an exit from the London Stadium in the January transfer window, and Lyon have apparently made a £15 million plus add-ons bid for his signature, but Jacob Steinberg has shared a big update today.
The 28-year-old has been in woeful form this season, and has fallen well down the left wing pecking order under Hammers boss David Moyes.
Benrahma still hasn’t scored this season and has bagged just one assist in 22 games in all competitions for West Ham (Transfermarkt).
If we manage to get £15 million for him, it would be truly unbelievable business. However, it appears as though the player himself could throw a spanner in the works for us…
Jacob Steinberg shares Said Benrahma twist
According to Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg, Benrahma is in fact reluctant to join Lyon from West Ham this month.
Now, that really is a big shock for two reasons. Firstly, surely Benrahma would want to move to a club where he’ll be playing regularly.
And secondly, it was only a couple of months ago when it was claimed that the Algerian was desperate to leave West Ham.
It just doesn’t make any sense to me. The 28-year-old has regressed so much over the past 12 months or so, and he is an absolute shadow of his former self.
He must realise that with Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus at the club, and with Moyes frantically searching for another winger, he has absolutely no chance of playing regularly for the Hammers.
West Ham really could do with the £15 million that Lyon have offered for the Algeria international as well.
So if Jacob Steinberg has his information correct and Said Benrahma really isn’t keen on joining the Ligue 1 outfit, it will be very bad news for us indeed.
