West Ham move for one of the world's quickest players has been killed by new Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag

A West Ham move for one of the world’s quickest players has been killed by new Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

It is well known that West Ham are on the hunt for a new left-back.

And it seems David Moyes’ latest attempts to sign one have been thwarted by Premier League rivals Man United.

According to leading transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano West Ham tried to sign Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia.

“Agreement between Man United and Feyenoord for Tyrell Malacia, now waiting for player decision,” Romano said on Twitter.

“€15m (£13m) plus €2m (£1.75m) add ons fee.

“Same agents of Frenkie de Jong, deal with Barça progressing well.

“West Ham tried to hijack deal too.”

Hammers boss Moyes and head of recruitment Rob Newman have been scouting the player for some time.

And West Ham had to expedite their interest in Malacia when it emerged Man United were honing in on a move.

Because it is being widely reported that Malacia is set to become one of ten Hag’s first signings at Old Trafford.

French club Lyon, who West Ham knocked out of the Europa League quarter-finals in emphatic style last season, were also said to be in for Malacia.

One of the key commodities of modern football, particularly in the Premier League, is speed.

Speed kills and it West Ham are missing out on one of the quickest players in the world to Man United when it comes to Malacia.

What the diminutive left-back lacks in size he more than makes up for with pace.

We are talking Olympic speeds here and when in full flow, Malacia is a sight to behold pacing down the wing.

The one Opta statistic that perhaps best highlights the outrageous pace West Ham are missing out on and Man United are set to gain is the fact Malacia was not dribbled past once last season.

Malacia’s status as one of the world’s quickest players has also been referenced several times in Sky Sports News reports on his future this week – including Wednesday June 29th 12.30pm.

Staggering. And it seems Man United are getting a real bargain here for a player West Ham could have really done with.
