Dominican striker Mariano Diaz, who was told he ‘made a mistake’ not joining West Ham, is now for sale at Real Madrid.
David Moyes has been searching for a forward to replace Sebastien Haller for the last 18 months.
And one of the first strikers West Ham were linked with following Haller’s departure in January last year was Real Madrid’s Diaz (The Daily Mail).

Mariano, 28, has been linked with the Hammers in the three windows since.
And back in March, Mariano was criticised for snubbing West Ham to stay and ‘waste away on the bench at Real Madrid’.
Spanish football expert Terry Gibson pulled no punches when telling El Tel and Jon’s La Liga Weekly podcast that Mariano should have joined West Ham instead of staying at the Bernabéu.

“I don’t have any sympathy for Mariano Diaz,” Gibson told El Tel and Jon’s La Liga Weekly podcast after the January window.
“West Ham (would have been perfect). He would play and probably earn the same money. They (West Ham) could match the money he earns at Real Madrid.”

According to Diario AS and Football Espana, Real want to move Mariano on this summer as the forward is not in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans for the 2022/23 campaign.
Mariano played just 11 games for Madrid in 2021/22 and scored one goal, against Cadiz in the penultimate game of the league season.
He has one more year left to run on the deal he signed when he came to the Santiago Bernabeu from Lyon for around £20m.

West Ham have not yet been mentioned with renewed interest in the player. But it seems only a matter of time given how the transfer rumour mill operates.
Getafe and Turkish outfit Fenerbahce have emerged as contenders. But you can bet West Ham will be mentioned in the coming days and weeks.
His chance to join the Hammers looks certain to have been and gone, though.

Moyes has his sights firmly fixed on Armando Broja as his prime striker target.
And Mariano’s previous snubs merely to remain on the bench at Real will not have endeared him to Moyes.
It seems Mariano should have signed for West Ham when he had the chance.
