Longstanding David Moyes West Ham striker target Ben Brereton Diaz is now in advanced talks over a shock move to an Italian club.

It is one of football’s worst kept secrets that West Ham are in the market for a new striker.

Hammers boss Moyes has been trying to sign a forward for the last three windows without success.

West Ham have been linked with a plethora of strikers and speculation has only intensified since the transfer window opened this month.

One of those long linked with West Ham is Blackburn Rovers star Ben Brereton Diaz.

The Chile international has reportedly been on Moyes’ radar since last summer following his goalscoring exploits in the Championship with Blackburn.

There was renewed speculation in January that West Ham were looking to sign Brereton Diaz.

And there has been fresh speculation this month that Moyes still wants the accomplished finisher, with West Ham said to be ‘leading the race’ (The Sun).

Reports from the likes of Football.London also credited West Ham’s London rivals Tottenham Hotspur with an interest in Brereton Diaz.

The Sun and Lancs.Live claimed a trio of West Ham’s Europa League opponents last season – Sevilla, Lyon and Eintracht Frankfurt – were also vying with the Hammers to sign the Stoke-born 23-year-old.

Last week The Independent said Blackburn were set to listen to offers for the striker – who is out of contract next summer.

But longstanding Moyes West Ham striker target Brereton Diaz is now in advanced talks over a shock move to an Italian club.

Salernitana are in advanced negotiations for the Blackburn Rovers centre-forward.

According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio – as also reported by Football Italia – new Salernitana director of sport Morgan De Sanctis is currently in London to finalise the details of the move.

The move has come right out of left field and sounds as though it is close to being finalised.

No disrespect to Salernitana, but the move suggests only one thing – that Moyes is not interested in bringing Brereton Diaz to West Ham.

If West Ham were in for the striker, who scored 22 goals and laid on three assists in 34 starts last season, then he would surely not be choosing to move to a club who avoided relegation to Serie B by a single point on the final day of last season.

Proof then, if it were needed, that Armando Broja really is Moyes’ prime West Ham striker target.
