West Ham move for left-sided star Maxwel Cornet could include unique clause to get the deal done claim Sky Sports

West Ham United’s alleged move for left-sided star Maxwel Cornet could include a unique clause to get the deal done, claim Sky Sports.

The Hammers are looking at alternative options to David Moyes target Filip Kostic, who seems increasingly likely to either see out his contract at Eintracht Frankfurt or sign for Juventus.

One of those options is reportedly Burnley’s Cornet.

According to the likes of The Guardian, West Ham have made an official offer for ex Lyon man Cornet but face competition from Everton and Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.

“West Ham are close to agreeing a deal to sign Maxwel Cornet, but they face competition for the Burnley forward from Everton, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest,” The Guardian reports.

With Kostic reluctant to leave Eintracht, West Ham have switched their focus to Cornet, whose contract is understood to contain a £17.5m release clause…

“West Ham are trying to negotiate a lower fee with Burnley, which could open up the prospect of them being beaten to the signing of Cornet by a rival club. However they are leading the race to sign the former Lyon player.”

Hammers fans will be concerned that the apparent reluctance to push for a permanent deal will open the door for rival clubs.

But the West Ham move for left-sided star Cornet could include a unique clause to get the deal done claim Sky Sports.

In a transfer update on Sky Sports News on Wednesday morning, it was reported that West Ham are looking to strike a an initial loan deal with an option to buy which would become an obligation to buy should certain conditions be met.

“West Ham are continuing talks with Burnley over the signing of Maxwel Cornet,” Sky Sports News reports.

“West Ham’s proposal is a loan with an option to buy that would become an obligation based on certain player and club performances.”

Clubs usually agree to a permanent deal, a loan with an option or a loan with an obligation to buy.

West Ham appear to be working on a hybrid of the latter two in the hope of persuading Burnley to get a deal done.

It is clear to see why versatile Cornet appeals to Moyes and West Ham.

The 25-year-old Ivory Coast international can play left wing, left-back and through the middle as a central forward.

He scored nine goals in 26 appearances during his debut season in England.
