A West Ham man has surely just put David Moyes on red alert to complete the rumoured deal with Man United for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Any doubts that West Ham desperately need a new right-back were eradicated by Vladimir Coufal’s hapless performance in the defeat to Arsenal on Boxing Day evening.

Coufal and Ben Johnson have both proved nowhere near the required standard for a modern full-back.

After a brilliant first 18 months at West Ham, Coufal has been a shadow of the player who won the hearts of fans.

Coufal played Bukayo Saka a full five yards onside for Arsenal’s killer equaliser.

And he was beaten far too easily for a woeful second goal which also raised serious question marks over Luksaz Fabianski too.

West Ham needed to sign new full-backs in the summer and – as called by Hammers News at the time – the signing of Emerson from Chelsea was seriously questionable.

The failure to sign a right-back is frankly inexcusable from the West Ham management and it is costing the team dear.

A team is only as good as its weakest link – and the full-back areas are certainly that for the Hammers.

Now West Ham man Coufal has surely just put Moyes on red alert to complete a rumoured deal with Man United for Wan-Bissaka.

It was reported earlier this month that West Ham are in talks over a deal to sign right-back Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United in the winter window.

Man United signed the fullback from Crystal Palace for £50m in the summer of 2019 (BBC Sport).

West Ham boss Moyes actually tried to sign Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

And recent reports have suggested he will try again for Wan-Bissaka in January albeit with competition from Wolves.

Reporting for the Manchester Evening News, chief Man United writer Samuel Luckhurst confirmed West Ham’s interest in bringing the former Crystal Palace star back to London.

Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed a deal between West Ham and Man United for the right-back could be on the cards.

After Coufal’s awful performance Moyes should now be doing everything in his power to make that deal happen.

Wan-Bissaka is regarded one of the best one v one defenders in the Premier League.

And he is among the fastest players in the history of the Premier League (WolfGangSport).

The 24-year-old has been criticised for a lack of ability going forward. However, during his time at Crystal Palace, Wan-Bissaka showed he has got that in his game.

The problem is being an attacking fullback for a team like West Ham is a totally different proposition than doing it for Man United.

Most teams who play the Red Devils will put 10 men behind the ball and try to play on the counter attack, leaving very little space in behind.

But sides will have a go at the likes of West Ham, leaving that space for Wan-Bissaka to get forward – just as he used to for the Eagles with performances when persuading Man United to part with £50m to sign him.

If Moyes thinks he does not need to make signings in January he is completely deluded.

Get it done.
