The addition of a new striker at West Ham United will be vital this summer, and a news of a fresh bid going in has just emerged.

West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui has one main priority before the new season starts, and that is to bring a top-class striker to the London Stadium.

The Spaniard’s main remit is to take West Ham back inside the top six, and in order to do that he needs a proper striker leading the line.

Michail Antonio has been brilliant for us over the years in all fairness to him, but a big upgrade is required on him urgently.

Jhon Duran seems to be the Hammers’ main striker target, but Lopetegui has other options lined up as well, as he should do.

The West Ham head coach is casting his net far and wide, and it seems as though a La Liga striker has taken his fancy…

West Ham make striker bid

The need for a new striker at West Ham has been well-documented for years now.

David Moyes tried hard to address that particular problem position, with the signing of Gianluca Scamacca.

However, the Italian turned out to be a failure at the London Stadium, and was shipped back to his homeland last summer.

Now it’s up to Lopetegui to succeed where Moyes failed before him, and it seems as though that’s exactly what he plans to do.

According to a report from El Periodico Mediterraneo, the Hammers have made a formal bid for Villarreal striker Alexander Sorloth.

The report suggests that West Ham’s bid for the 28-year-old hitman was rejected by the La Liga side, and it doesn’t disclose how much the offer was worth.

So it remains to be seen whether the Hammers go back in with a new bid for the 53-capped Norway international forward.

Some reports have claimed that Villarreal want as much as £38 million for the prolific striker, but others have sugegsted he could be up for grabs for just £25 million.

That sounds like good value to me.

Sorloth scored 131 goals in 368 career games. Last season for Villarreal, he bagged an impressive 26 goals and six assists in 41 games.

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, the Norwegian is always a real handful for opposing centre-backs, what with his strength and physicality.

The former Crystal Palace striker is incredibly strong in the air, obviously, possesses decent pace and he is an elite finisher.

On paper, he’d be the perfect striker for West Ham, so it’s a shame that our opening bid for him got rejected.
