West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are battling it out for the signing of Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer.
The Hammers could’ve signed the 28-year-old for just £10 million from Peterborough five years ago, but the board deemed that as too much money at the time.
That now looks like a terrible decision doesn’t it – how West Ham could do with a striker like Ivan Toney now.
The England international has bagged 72 goals and 23 assists in 141 games for the Bees, and he is one of the strongest strikers in world football aerially.
Ivan Toney is a lethal finisher, and has the ability to take West Ham to an entire new level with his outstanding quality.
The striker is one of the strongest aerial forwards in the game, and he would be the perfect focal point for the Hammers’ attacking play.
It has already been reported that Spurs are more likely to sign Toney than the Hammers this summer.
And now, things have just got even worse for West Ham…
Ivan Toney makes choice between West Ham and Tottenham
The 28-year-old hitman is set for an exit from Brentford.
Whether that will be this summer or next remains to be seen though, with the striker out of contract with the Bees in 12 month’s time.

Toney is apparently available for less than £50 million this summer, and with Spurs and the Hammers on the hunt for a new striker, he seems to be the perfect candidate for both clubs.
Now it has become clear just where the England international could be playing this upcoming season.
According to a report from talkSPORT, Toney has informed his representatives that he wants to join Tottenham before the transfer window closes.
And if that move doesn’t happen, he’s prepared to run down his contract with Brentford, so that he can leave them on a free transfer next summer.
The reason why the latest news is so disastrous for West Ham is because Ivan Toney would be the perfect striker for us, and Tottenham signing him would hurt badly.
The Brentford centre-forward would be the perfect man to lead the line for the Hammers in Lopetegui’s system.
He’d be a huge upgrade on Michail Antonio and would undoubtedly take West Ham to another level entirely.
The dream of signing Ivan Toney may well still be alive for the Hammers, but it’s fading fast after the latest update.
Let’s hope that something happens between now and the end of the transfer window, and the Brentford hitman ends up in East London, rather than north of the capital.
