Ivan Toney is a realistic transfer target for West Ham United, but there is one major problem standing in our way.

West Ham have been chasing Ivan Toney for quite some time now, and have been heavily linked with a move to sign the Brentford man already this summer.

Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui is believed to be prioritising a move to sign a striker this summer, and they don’t come much better than Toney.

The 28-year-old has a proven track record of scoring goals in the Premier League, and that’s exactly what we need right now.

Michail Antonio has been great for us but his days are numbered at the very highest level as far as I’m concerned.

And if Lopetegui is to sign a centre-forward this summer, Toney would surely be right at the top of the lists of many fans…

Ivan Toney to West Ham talk gathers pace

The Brentford hitman looks all set to leave the Bees this summer, after four years with the west London outfit.

According to a report from The Sun, West Ham are now in a two-way battle with Tottenham in the race to sign Toney.

Spurs’ interest in the former Peterborough United man will obviously be a big problem for us.

Brentford are said to be demanding a maximum of £50 million for the England international.

Whether West Ham can stretch to that kind of fee is doubtful, but should Brentford lower their demands to around £40 million, I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t push the boat out for him.

There are undoubtedly those who will say they wouldn’t want the 28-year-old anywhere near the club, after his continual admissions about wanting to leave Brentford to join a bigger club.

However, that’s just part and parcel of dealing with mercurial talents. We had the same before with Marko Arnautovic and Dimitri Payet, and every West Ham fan would surely love to have players like that at the club now.

The England international has bagged 72 goals and 23 assists in 141 games for the Bees, and he is one of the strongest strikers in world football aerially.

Ivan Toney is a lethal finisher, and has the ability to take West Ham to an entire new level with his outstanding quality.

Please let this one happen this summer – he’d be superb for us. Whether the Hammers are able to beat Tottenham to his signature remains to be seen though.
